To what extent does the cabinet excutive essays

To what extent does the cabinet excutive essays To What Extent Do Cabinets Play A Role in The political executive? A cabinet is delineated as a committee of senior ministers who represent the different government departments or ministers. Most political executives have some form of cabinet. However, the nature of the role of cabinet is dependant on the country it is featured in and the nature of that countries political system. All cabinets though, serve two principal functions: they allow government to display a collective front to legislatures and the electorate, so preventing the image that government is in the hands of one person. Secondly, they act as an administrative instrument to secure effective co-ordination of the bureaucracy, who is charged with the implementation of government policy. A country without a cabinet is likely to be made up of opposing bureaucratic empires aiming on increasing their own wealth, this happened in the Hitler state of Nazi Germany. In presidential systems such as the USAs, the cabinet acts as device for policy advice as opposed to policy formulation. In the second part of the twentieth century, the American executive has increased in size though not at a cabinet level, there has been an increase in size of the Executive Office of the President. It is interesting to note that cabinet is at the apex of countries that regard with high esteem the notion of cabinet government, these countries include, Great Britain, Italy, Sweden, Norway and numerous Commonwealth states. In the USSR, a type of collective leadership was in place, this was a mirror of the Marxist-Leninist notion. In reality communist party leaders, for example, Stalin, were so autocratic, they wielded such hegemony over the Politburo and its equivalent state body, the Presidium of the council of ministers that leaders stayed in power till they died.Throughout Europe and particularly in Germany, ministers are increasingly discouraged from perceiving themselves as part ...

10 Sentences with Muddled Meanings Made Clear

10 Sentences with Muddled Meanings Made Clear 10 Sentences with Muddled Meanings Made Clear 10 Sentences with Muddled Meanings Made Clear By Mark Nichol One of my mottos is â€Å"Mean what you say, and say what you mean.† I try to write by the same standards, but it’s harder than it looks. What appears to be a reasonable sentence often isn’t and â€Å"I understand what the writer meant to write† is a poor excuse for â€Å"I understand what the writer wrote.† Here are some examples of how to make an almost-right statement a right statement: 1. â€Å"The colonists were eager to surround themselves with the gardens of their homeland.† This sentence implies that the colonists excavated the gardens in their homeland and deposited them in their new environs. Here’s the intended meaning: â€Å"The colonists were eager to surround themselves with gardens reminiscent of those in their homeland.† 2. â€Å"The amount of water pumped from the reservoir reached a seemingly impossible peak of half a million acre-feet.† Peak is an awkward analogical term when referring to water volume. A more semantically neutral description is called for: â€Å"The amount of water pumped from the reservoir reached a seemingly impossible maximum output of half a million acre-feet.† 3. â€Å"We visited a Polish concentration camp.† The writer states an impossibility: Poland never established concentration camps. What is true is that Nazi Germany established concentration camps in Poland. Superficially speaking, the difference is subtle, but the insensitivity of the inadvertent error is profound. To be accurate, write, â€Å"We visited a concentration camp in Poland.† 4. â€Å"The opposite pole with respect to availability is represented by Poland.† While we’re in Poland, let’s note the distracting use of pole, which when capitalized refers to a person from Poland, in a sentence about that nation. In addition to omitting the distraction, let’s make the sentence active: â€Å"Poland represents the other extreme on the spectrum of availability.† 5. â€Å"The 275-square-mile tropical island off the southern end of the Malay Peninsula is smaller than New York City and every other country in southeast Asia.† The phrase â€Å"New York City and every other country† implies that the Big Apple is located in southeast Asia. Here’s what the writer meant: â€Å"The 275-square-mile tropical island off the southern end of the Malay Peninsula, dwarfed by every other country in southeast Asia, is smaller than New York City.† 6. â€Å"Another report with thirty-two in-depth interviews has shown that all participants support the procedure.† Unless both reports in question were based on thirty-two in-depth interviews, the sentence should be slightly revised to indicate otherwise: â€Å"Another report, with thirty-two in-depth interviews, has shown that all participants support the procedure.† 7. â€Å"One group of countries (Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Finland, France, Mexico, New Caledonia, and Puerto Rico) does not permit adoption by homosexual couples but does permit single people to adopt.† The phrase â€Å"one group of countries† incorrectly implies that they act in concert to prohibit adoption by homosexual couples. Omit the troublesome phrase and start with the list: â€Å"Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Finland, France, Mexico, New Caledonia, and Puerto Rico do not permit adoption by homosexual couples but do permit single people to adopt.† 8. â€Å"The United States was right in interning the Japanese, and maybe it should happen again.† This sentence, part of a discussion about dealing with terrorism practiced by Islamic extremists, isn’t meant to propose that people of Japanese ancestry in the United States should be interned in response to the terrorist attacks, but that’s what it says. The statement should be revised to convey that the reference to the Japanese is an analogy: â€Å"The United States was right in interning the Japanese, and maybe a similar strategy should be employed again.† 9. â€Å"Many Americans seem resigned to the notion that agriculture and big industries require a ton of water, and there’s not much we can do to change that.† This sentence, out of context, has an almost invisible error. The point is not that altering the notion is seemingly insurmountable; it’s that Big Business’s supposedly insatiable need for water is part of the notion: â€Å"Many Americans seem resigned to the notion that agriculture and big industries require a ton of water and that there’s not much we can do to change that.† 10. â€Å"If you havent been there, it is one of the greatest and most civilized places on Earth.† This subtle error is of a type called a false conditional; when read literally, it implies that if, and only if, you haven’t visited a certain country, it can claim to be what the sentence conveys about it. (Isn’t that faintly insulting to you?) The intended meaning follows: â€Å"If you haven’t been there, you should go, because it is one of the greatest and most civilized places on Earth.† Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Market target paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Market target paper - Essay Example In addition, LA is also the focal point of the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Riverside, which has cumulative population of over 18 million approximately estimated in 2009 (US Census, 2010). It should be highlighted that the larger the population in a city, the great the derived needs / demand and the greater the market size. In addition, the per capita income across Los Angeles city is nearly $55,000 as estimated in 2010 (Beacon Economics, 2010). The major suppliers of watches to JBR collections will be international corporations with well known brands such as Replica, Rolex, Casio, Citizen, Armani, Adidas, Orient, Omega, Franck Muller, Rado, Raymond Weil, Seiko etc. For instance, the non-branded local and imported watches from India and China of medium to high quality will be offered at budget prices to attract customers from different social classes. The watches will be marketed to both male and female customers within the age bracket of 16 - 65 years. 2. Target Market The actual target m arket of JBR Collections is elite, upper – middle and middle – middle class groups because Los Angeles is a city of well-established rich consumers with an average annual income of $55,000 in 2009 – 2010 (Beacon Economics, 2010). Indeed, highly expensive elitist branded watches will be targeted to income groups having on average $70,000 and above per annum. The relatively high priced and affordable brands will be observed to middle – middle customers with an income range of $45,000 – 70,000 per annum. Finally, the low priced budget watches, local and imported, will be for lower – middle customers with an income of $20,000 – 30,000. 3. Product Indeed, it should be highlighted that the US economy is recovering from recession; therefore, new business opportunities have been created that could be utilized prudently to maximize financial gains. The products will be wristwatches, wall clocks and time pieces that are heavily demanded by indi viduals, households and businesses because a watch is a genuine need of a human being, thus having relatively inelastic demand. 4. Competition The value proposition of JBR will be â€Å"Premium watch collections at competitive prices†. Indeed, the showroom will be opened in well established City Shopping Center, which enjoys a strong customer base. For instance, the showroom will face intense competition with other watch showrooms located in LA in shopping malls such as Beverly Center Shopping Mall, Rodeo Drive, Two Rodeo, Century City Shopping Center and Westside Pavilion (LA Tourist Guide, 2011). Shops located in unorganized smaller markets will also give competition to JBR Collections. The only strategy to ensure business survival is to adopt penetration pricing strategies in first few months of operations because low introductory prices will help attracting many potential customers to JBR Collections. 5. Mission Statement To offer valued customers of Los Angeles City the high priced premium quality watch brands as well as budget price watches at affordable prices and to create value through meeting consumers’ watches demand and maintaining quality standards through strict control and after-sales-services. 6. Market Strategies 6.1 - Price JBR Collections has planned to use promotional pricing strategy in first three months after official inauguration of its new showroom. The reason behind it is the fact that it would like to attract maximum customers in first few mon

The Organizations Restructuring Programs and HRD Practices Research Paper

The Organizations Restructuring Programs and HRD Practices - Research Paper Example This study basically draws on the HRD policy based convergence/divergence parameters of the organization for the continuous analysis for proper articulation of the HRD strategy at a broader level through its theoretical underpinnings are based on the need to focus attention on the evolving environment of competition. HRD policies and initiatives have received greater attention in the current period due to highly articulate employee skills training and development strategies at the individual firm level. Thus the theoretical and empirical analysis of this paper is based on the available literature on the subject at a global level along with an analysis based on the business organizations’ own HRD practices. In other words, an HRD policy and initiative based analysis is a near approximation of an otherwise intractable continuum which lacks definable contours and a logical conceptual framework of reference. While theoretical constructs underlying this approach have been presented as a uniform analysis there is very little attention being focused on the qualitative paradigm shift caused by the a priori and a posteriori catalytic changes. Thus the qualitative shift in this study is essentially based on these outcomes and the latest calibrations and/or benchmarks enunciated by researchers to establish a conceptual framework for analysis. This paper just focuses on the latest HRD related practices and theoretical evolutionary process with reference to the global level. HRD function as against HRM is much facilitated when the scale of operations expands beyond a certain minimum level.

Investigating Enzyme Activity :: Papers

Investigating Enzyme Activity PLANNING AIM === The aim of this experiment is to see how changing the concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) affects the rate of reaction of the enzyme Catalase. The reaction I am looking at is the breakdown of Hydrogen Peroxide into water and oxygen by the enzyme Catalase. The equation for this reaction is: 2H2O2 Ã   2H2O + O2 FACTORS ------- In this experiment I could change the following factors: Concentration of the Hydrogen Peroxide or Catalase, the time, the temperature and the Ph of the solutions. SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE (See appendix 1) PREDICTION ---------- My prediction is that the higher the concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide, the greater the amount of oxygen given off will be within a period of time. The lower the concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide the amount of oxygen given off will be less than if it was at a higher concentration. I think this because there are more particles in a substance to collide and react at a higher concentration. VARIABLES I am not going to change anything other than the concentration of the Hydrogen Peroxide. The concentration of the Catalase enzyme, the temperature of the laboratory and the Ph of the solutions will remain constant. EQUIPMENT Hydrogen Peroxide (concentration - 0.5 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, 2.5% and 3.0%) Safety Catalase Water trough, Burette, Stop clock, Delivery tube, Clamp stand, Conical flask, Syringe, Pipette Glasses/goggles, PROCEDURE 1. I will take the equipment drawn and set it up as shown. *(appendix 2) 2. I will fill the burette and water trough with water. 3. Using a measuring cylinder, I will put 10ml of Hydrogen Peroxide in the conical flask connected to the delivery tube. 4. Trying to prevent water from escaping, I shall turn the burette upside down and clamp it to the stand with the bottom of the burette in the water trough and feed the delivery tube through the burette.

Spike Lee – Auteur

Spike Lee – Auteur BY as_e453 An auteur is a director who personal creative vision and style is expressed through films. The term auteur is originated in France and is French for author. There are different ways in which a director can express their vision in films and show who they are. There are many directors that are considered to be a auteur such as: Quentin Tarintino, Tim Burton, Kathryn Bigelow, Stanley Kubrick and Woody Allen. The director I have chosen as an auteur is Spike Lee.Lee's Life: Spike Lee is an American film director who has directed, produced, written and acted in Spike Lee films such as Malcolm X, Jungle Fever, Inside Man and Love ; Basketball. Spike Lee was born in Atlanta, Georgia where he attended Morehouse College and made his first student film Last Hustle in Brooklyn, he then graduated from New York University in 1982. Lee grew up in a well-off, respective African American family and by the time he was 20 he started to make amateur films. He won a s tudent academy award for his thesis film Joe's Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads.Spike originally became interested in the arts because of his parents' background but after attending college e realised he had a stronger passion for film making and decided to become a filmmaker. Film Career: Lee created his first feature film She's Gotta Have It in 1986 which grossed over $7,000,000 and was one of the most profitable films made in 1986. It was a comedy Lee on set directing a film film which makes fun of the stereotyped vision on black men cheating on their partners but instead the roles were reverse and focuses on a woman having 3 different partners.The film did have some mixed views in Hollywood but it became a hit with his African American fans. After making his first feature film Lee began to reate many other great films and was not only being known as a director but also a comic actor. His ultimate goal was to â€Å"make films that will capture the Black experience by any means necessary' and that is exactly what he did. Here's a trailer for Do the Right Thing: His other work: Other than being a successful director, producer, actor and writer. Spike is also a successful music director and documentarian.He has directed music videos for celebrities such as Michael Jackson, Naughty by Nature, Anita Baker and Public Enemy. He has also directed the documentaries, Jim Brown: All-American and 4 Little Girls which was nominated â€Å"Best Documentary'. He is also known for making some great commercials for Nike, Converse, Jaguar, Taco Bell and Ben ; Jerrys. His Personal Style: Themes: Spike is no stranger to controversy due to the elements he uses in his films. Most of Lee's tilms consist ot an Atrican American theme and inspect the issues ot race relations, political issues, urban crime and violence.His 2nd film he made Do the Right Thing (1989) explored all of these issues. He also explored the issues of family/ father & relationships in his films Crooklyn (199 4), Get on the Bus (1996) and He Got Game (1998). In his films School Daze (1988), Do The Right Thing (1989), Jungle Fever (1991), Get on the Bus (1996), Summer of Sam (1999) and Bamboozled (2000) he included the issues circulating around racism. Another issue he explores is black female sexuality which is in the films She's Gotta Have It (1986), Girl 6 (1996) and She Hates Me (2004).Genre: Whenever it comes to genre Spike always picks the right one. He switches them around so sometimes his films will be a comedy, sometimes it will be a romantic comedy (a hybrid genre) or a drama. Spike never seems to fail when it comes to enre because he always brings something different to the film and it's so enjoyable to watch. Use of actors: Spike frequently casts himself, John Turturro, Samuel L. Jackson, Delroy Lindo, Roger Spike as Mars Blackmon a character from his film Guenveur Smith, Michael Imperioli and Denzel Washington in his films.I think it's because he knows exactly what he wants i n a film and if he see a person who could portray the character they are given in a certain way then that is who he will choose, plus these actors are professional actors and know what they are doing. Lee often cast real life families in his films. In Do The Right Thing (1989) he casts Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee (who are real life husband and wife), Joie Lee (Spike's real life sister), Danny Aiello and Rick Aiello (who are real life father and son).He has done this in other films such as School Daze (1998), Jungle Fever (1991), Mo' Better Blues (1990) and Malcolm X (1992) His Signature shot: Spike has a signature shot which he likes to use in his films. It is named â€Å"The Double- Dolly Shot†. The camera is placed on a dolly and moves along a track, the movement of the camera is smooth and makes the subject in the scene look like its floating or gliding. Here is an example of Spike's Double Dolly Shot being used in his films: Another thing which is common in Lee's films is th e way the characters addresses the camera.Spike prefers the characters to address the camera directly when filming. Narrative Structure in films: Lee calls his films â€Å"A Spike Lee Joint†. In the ending of his films he would usually use the phrases, â€Å"By Any Means Necessary', mia Dig† and â€Å"Sho Nuff'. Ending the film like this will make the audience remember it , you won't be able to forget a film with a ending phrase like that. The films that use a narration (She's Gotta Have It 1986) are ften associated with the subject of baseball teams and players.Spike Lee talks about the issues that are going on in the world today and he is not afraid to tell the truth in his movie. He casts characters that portray their characters in a positive light just like in Malcolm X (1992 biographical film). Yes, people may see him as controversial, but that Just makes him who he is. Spike is a good director and he is good at what he does. Spike one wish was â€Å"to put the vast richness of black culture on tilm† when he became a tllm maker. films in his own vision. He is an auteur who continues to make great

How Does Stevenson Create Intrigue & Interest for Th E Reader

Explore how Stevenson creates a sense of intrigue and engages the reader’s interest in ‘Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’. Throughout this novel Stevenson consistently uses his characters to create and engage the reader’s curiosity; Utterson first stokes the mystery of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde when he regards to Mr Enfield; ‘Did you ever remark that door? – Enfield returning with the recital of an unusual story in which Mr Hyde is mentioned for the first time. Stevenson uses Hyde’s brutal and seemingly horrifying mentality to arrest the reader’s attention; ensuring not to give the reader to much detail so as to capture their interest and leave them hanging on the end of every unanswered question.As the story continues, Stevenson strategically places events and clues to give the reader a wider picture of the elusive Mr Hyde without giving them too much information; an example of the mystery being gradually expanded is in chapter two when Utterso n is searching for Hyde – the reader discovers that Utterson has the will of Dr Henry Jekyll in which the reader learns that Hyde is entitled to Henry Jekyll’s inheritance and that he is allowed to pass freely in and out of Jekyll’s house; the will and Jekyll’s trust in Hyde being used in order to establish a link between the both of them.In chapter four the reader learns that Hyde has murdered Sir Danvers Carew; a man of high status, giving us further insight into Hyde’s true and careless nature and awarding the reader with a further link between Hyde and Jekyll.When the reader discovers in chapter five that Dr Jekyll has forged a letter for Mr Hyde it is important to note that Stevenson is constantly challenging the reader as to why Jekyll and Hyde are connected since the two are classed in different ranks of society; Jekyll was a respected doctor whom was described as a ‘large, well-made, smooth-faced man of fifty’ with every mark o f capacity and kindness’ who lived in a ‘square of ancient, handsome houses’ whereas Hyde is hated by many and was ‘pale and dwarfish, he gave an impression of deformity without any nameable malformation’ who lived in ‘the dismal quarter of Soho’ ‘with its muddy ways, and slatternly passages’ – it’s a wonder to the reader what Jekyll saw in the lower class Hyde. Stevenson creates Dr Jekyll in contrast to Mr Hyde using vivid yet entirely opposite descriptions of the two men to create an interesting dynamic within the novel; challenging the reader as to whether the lower and higher class people within Victorian society can walk on an equal level. In the final two hapters Stevenson reveals to the reader that Henry Jekyll has been manipulating science in such a way that, using ‘unscientific balderdash’, he has split the human conscience; the good side of the conscience being Dr Jekyll and the evil side of the conscience being Mr Hyde – the reader is horrified that science has been used in such a way but the shock of the novel is stimulating and has been written in such a way that the raw brutality of the story gives the reader a thrill. The way in which Stevenson intrigues the reader is mainly down to the way in which he withholds and presents particular details from the reader so that through the novel they can only accumulate a shaded judgement of ‘The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ and that only in the final chapters, when every clue is given a meaning, can they truly understand Dr Jekyll’s true nature; it is in this way that Stevenson induces excitement, curiosity and mystery into his novel and creates an outstanding air of intrigue and interest.

Ansoffs growth-vector matrix For CIC Holdings Essays - Economy

Ansoff's growth-vector matrix For CIC Holdings Essays - Economy Ansoff's growth-vector matrix For CIC Holdings Figure SEQ Figure \* ARABIC 1 Ansoff's Growth vector matrix Market penetration isthe safest of the four options. Here, the company should focus on expanding sales of its existing product in its existing market. CIC can develop new strategies, to encourage more people to choose the company's product or use more of it. As CIC is in the agricultural industry, where consumers purchasing it uses the product in the kitchen, CIC could develop new strategies such as including kitchen utensils for free e.g.: spoons, cups etc. that would draw the customers attention into purchasing the product as they could save money from purchasing those extra utensils. Another strategy CIC could use is by adding extra product into their packaging e.g.: adding 200g extra to their 2kg package of rice and mentioning "extra 10%" in the packaging to make consumers aware of the extra included. More of the product with the same prices of the competitors would draw attention from buyers to purchase the product.(Mindtools.com, 2016) Product development is slightly more risky, because you're introducing a new product into your existing market. Here, the company is selling different products to the same people, who are already aware and have tried previous products of the company. When a product is there for a long time in the market, people might get bored of it, perhaps changing the packaging of the product by repackaging it with a more attractive package could change the customer's interest. Another technique CIC could use is by extending its product by producing in different variants such as producing Yogurts in different flavors instead of one, which allows customers to make choices within the same company's products. Market development, you're putting an existing product into an entirely new market. You can do this by finding a new use for the product, or by adding new features or benefits to it. There are many methods that CIC can use when it comes to market development. As CIC distributes its products to customers via agents and intermediaries, CIC could come up with new methods such as by having direct sales and by having Online sales to reach wider markets. When it comes to online sales, CIC could develop its own Smart phone app to enable customers to purchase products and get the goods delivered to their door step. With the amount of people having smart phones today with the touch of a screen, consumers can expect their goods to be delivered without any hassle. This way CIC could grab the market filled with lazy people and people who are too busy to walk up to a supermarket to purchase anything. Diversification is the riskiest of the four options, because you're introducing a new, unproven product into an entirely new market. This strategy is risky: there's often little scope for using existing expertise or for achieving economies of scale, because you are trying to sell completely different products or services to different customers. E.g. CIC could start manufacturing clay pots and sell it to the people in India. (Mindtools.com, 2016) Directional Policy Matrix List of Industry Attractiveness The GE / McKinsey matrix is a model used to assess the strength of a strategic business unit (SBU) of a corporation. It analyzes market attractiveness and competitive strength to determine the overall strength of a SBU. The GE matrix consists of two axis, the x axis which represents competitive strength of the business unit and y axis which represents the industry attractiveness of that unit. In order for a business to use the GE matrix, the business should first consider or list down the factors under each axis the competitive strength of a business unit and for the industry attractiveness. Basically what the industry attractiveness is, is the market attractiveness which deals with certain external factors of the business. There are several factors under industry attractiveness, but CIC should choose only the ones related to its industry. Factors under industry attractiveness include market size, market growth rate, and market profitability, industry structure, market segmentation and trend of prices. (Jurevicius, 2016) Competitive strength focuses on internal factors and the ability of the SBU to overcome specific issues with the market andcompetitors. Internal

Get Copies of Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates

Get Copies of Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates Vital records- birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates, and divorce decrees- are one of the best resources to help build a family tree.  Once you determine the state where the birth, death, marriage or divorce occurred, select the state from the list below to learn how to get a certified copy of the vital record or where to find free vital records online.   Where to Find U.S. Vital Records A AlabamaAlaskaArizonaArkansas C CaliforniaCanal ZoneColoradoConnecticut D DelawareDistrict of Columbia F Florida G Georgia H Hawaii I IdahoIllinoisIndianaIowa K KansasKentucky L Louisianna M MaineMarylandMassachusettesMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontana N NebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNew York CityNorth CarolinaNorth Dakota O OhioOklahomaOregon P PennsylvaniaPuerto Rico R Rhode Island S South CarolinaSouth Dakota T TennesseTexas U Utah V VermontVirginiaVirgin Islands W WashingtonWest VirginaWisconsinWyoming Vital records  are one of the best resources for helping you to build your family tree due to their: Completeness- Vital records usually cover a large percentage of the population and include a wide variety of information for linking families.Reliability- Because they are usually created close to the time of the event by someone with personal knowledge of the facts and because most governments have measures in place to try and ensure their accuracy, vital records are a fairly reliable form of genealogical information.Availability- Since they are official documents,  governments have made an effort to preserve vital records with newer records being found in local government offices and older records residing in a variety of record repositories and archives. Why Vital Records May Not Be  Available In the United States, the responsibility for registering vital events is left to the individual states.  Many states, however, did not require birth, death or marriage records to be registered until late into the 1800s, and in some cases not until the early to mid-1900s. While some New England states kept town and county records as early as the 1600s, other states such as Pennsylvania and South Carolina didnt require birth registration until 1906 and 1913, respectively.  Even after registration was required by law, not all  births, marriages and deaths were reported- the  compliance rate may have been as low as 50-60% in earlier years, depending upon the time and place. People living in rural areas often found it an inconvenience to take a day from work to travel many miles to the local registrar. Some people were suspicious of the governments reasons for wanting such information and simply refused to register. Others may have registered the birth of one child, but not others . Registration of births, marriages,  and deaths is much more accepted today, however, with current rates of registration closer to 90-95%. Marriage records, unlike birth and death records, can also usually be found at the county level, and are often available from the date the county was organized (going back into the 1700s in some instances). In some areas, marriage records may also be found at the town level (e.g. New England), the city level (e.g. NYC) or the parish level (e.g. Louisiana).

Does age effect performance in Distance Learning Classes Research Paper

Does age effect performance in Distance Learning Classes - Research Paper Example However, certain students’ characteristics presently have led to the emergence of numerous heated debates based on academic performances that entail intensive research. These embrace age, gender, ethnic background and student’s background. The aspects according to numerous personalities’ arguments raised, thus far, cite to have contributed to either failing or excelling of students among those undertaking distance learning especially age (Urtel, 2008). Opposing Perspectives (Pros and Cons) Arguments raised by some people and scholars like Urtel (2008), cite older students tend to perform better than younger people do academically when undertaking distance learning. This is because of their effective study skills that they have attained over the years, which is contrary to the young people (Urtel, 2008). Therefore, according to him age does not have any effect on performance when undertaking distance learning. Conversely, opposing arguments claim the young people because of growing up in a technological knowhow that is advancing by the day; they are proficient in using it almost in all aspects of their lives including learning (Bender, Smith & Project Muse, 2008). Hence, making them excel academically compared to the older students due to their heightened expertise in searching using internet while doing their respective researches. My stand My position is that age affects performance in these classes based on the aspect of technological knowhow.
